Prince William says his children are budding musicians

He encourages music for young people during South London charity visit

Prince William has revealed that his children are already discovering their love for music. During a visit to The Oasis Village in Tulse Hill, south London, he spoke about encouraging them to learn instruments, calling music “crucial” for young minds.

While touring the music studio run by Spiral Skills—a youth organisation in Lambeth that recently expanded with support from his Homewards Fund—William met several teenagers honing their talents. Sixteen-year-old Django Brooke invited him to try the drums, but he politely declined. “I’m definitely not a drummer,” he joked. “If my youngest were here, he’d have a go—he’s practising at the moment.” After watching Django perform, he laughed, “And that’s why you play, and I don’t.”

William admitted that he once dabbled in piano, trumpet, and drums but struggled because he couldn’t read music. “That was my biggest weakness,” he said. “I had to memorise every tune, and it just fell away.”

He shared that his children have already picked up instruments: Prince George is learning guitar, Princess Charlotte is practising piano, and Prince Louis is drumming at home in Adelaide Cottage. “I make sure my children learn music because I love music and it’s crucial,” he said.

Seth Pinnock, founder of Symphony Studios and host of the visit, said, “He told us he had learned drums and keyboards but couldn’t read music, so it was tricky for him.”

William smiled as he suggested the next generation might go further. With his children already finding their rhythm, he joked they could one day be practising in studios like these—perhaps even as a future royal band.
