Public opinion divided as King Charles faces growing pressure over Prince Andrew’s scandal
King Charles has received the final word from Britons on how he managed the ongoing controversy surrounding his brother, Prince Andrew.
According to Express.co.uk, the monarch has earned widespread respect and admiration for his decisive stance, with many citizens expressing satisfaction over the actions he took against Andrew.
For context, on October 17, Andrew released a striking statement confirming he would no longer use his royal title, the Duke of York, or any associated honours. The decision reportedly came after discussions with the King and other senior members of the royal family. In the same statement, he once again denied the sexual assault allegations made against him, explaining that he wanted to step back to ensure the positive work of the Royal Family could continue without distraction.
A new YouGov poll found that 40 percent of Britons believe the King handled the matter “very well” or “fairly well.” However, 30 percent felt the monarch failed to manage the crisis effectively, while around 28 percent remained uncertain about the situation.
Meanwhile, King Charles is said to have received cautionary advice regarding his next move. Andrew reportedly agreed to vacate the Royal Lodge only if he were granted living arrangements in Frogmore Cottage. Royal commentator Jennie Bond told The Mirror, “I think it would be a serious mistake if the King and the Palace agreed to such a brazen demand. You have to ask yourself whether Andrew and Sarah are completely deaf to public opinion.”
