Kensington Palace Responds to Claims of Prince William’s Meeting with His Cousins

Palace denies reports that the Prince of Wales ‘threatened’ Beatrice and Eugenie over their father’s residence

Kensington Palace has firmly denied claims that Prince William held a secret meeting with his cousins, the daughters of Prince Andrew, to pressure them into convincing their father to vacate Royal Lodge.

Reports surfaced after journalist Emily Maitlis, who conducted the notorious Newsnight interview with Andrew, suggested on a recent podcast that William had privately met with the sisters. According to her, he allegedly warned that if Andrew refused to leave the Windsor property, their royal titles could be reconsidered.

The claim quickly made headlines given the ongoing controversy surrounding Andrew’s future at Royal Lodge. However, Kensington Palace dismissed the story, telling The Mirror that “no meeting between the Prince of Wales and the princesses took place.” They added that it would be “factually inaccurate” to suggest William had the power to remove anyone’s title, explaining that constitutionally, he cannot.

Maitlis also shared that she had been tipped off about “passing traffic” near Royal Lodge for a possible story but that the plan was cancelled at the last moment.

Her comments come amid renewed scrutiny of Andrew, who is under growing pressure to leave his 30-room Windsor estate. The disgraced royal has continued to live there under a 75-year lease, despite losing his official titles and military honours earlier this month.

Though not confirmed, reports suggest that Andrew may eventually be relocated to Frogmore Cottage, the former home of Harry and Meghan Markle. Meanwhile, public frustration continues to mount, with a protester recently heckling the King over his brother’s living arrangements.
