King Charles Welcomes Global Space Leaders to Buckingham Palace

Monarch marks World Space Week with a message on sustainability

King Charles opened the doors of Buckingham Palace this week to host an important event celebrating World Space Week 2025, following weeks of public interest around supposed royal tensions.

On October 10, the royal family’s official Instagram account shared a video of the King warmly greeting international space leaders and representatives from the Sustainable Markets Initiative (SMI). The caption explained, “To mark World Space Week 2025, The King welcomed global space leaders to Buckingham Palace, alongside representatives of the Sustainable Markets Initiative, to hear about the future of sustainable space exploration.”

A Palace spokesperson said the King launched the SMI’s Astra Carta in 2022—an initiative designed to promote responsible and sustainable exploration beyond Earth. The project aims to unite governments, scientists, and private companies around the shared goal of protecting space for future generations.

In the video, King Charles appeared cheerful and deeply engaged as he discussed how space technology supports critical global efforts such as predicting natural disasters. The footage also highlighted growing concerns about overcrowding in Earth’s orbit due to the rising number of active satellites, stressing the need for long-term stewardship of space.

Through this event, King Charles once again underscored his commitment to sustainability—extending his environmental advocacy from Earth to the wider universe.
