Prince William and Catherine surprise fans with major announcement

The royal couple’s first official portrait finds a permanent home in Cambridgeshire

The Prince and Princess of Wales have delighted royal fans by announcing that their historic joint portrait has found a new permanent home.

The painting, created by award-winning artist Jamie Coreth, was commissioned in 2021 by the Cambridgeshire Royal Portrait Fund while William and Catherine still held the titles of Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. It was the first official joint portrait of the couple, capturing them in a striking yet intimate pose that reflects both elegance and warmth.

Initially displayed at the Fitzwilliam Museum in Cambridge, the portrait has travelled through various community spaces across the county. Now, it will be permanently housed in Peterborough Cathedral, making it easily accessible to residents and visitors in northern Cambridgeshire.

Julie Spence, Lord Lieutenant of Cambridgeshire, shared the update on social media, writing, “Our fabulous portrait of The Prince and Princess of Wales as the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will now be on display at Peterborough Cathedral so everyone can enjoy it.”

When the portrait was first unveiled in June 2022, Coreth said his goal was to portray the couple as “relaxed and approachable, as well as elegant and dignified.” The artwork stands as a lasting tribute to their connection with the people of Cambridgeshire and to their role within the royal family’s modern history.
