While the King manages a fresh dilemma sparked by Harry’s revived security case, Queen Camilla brings warmth and joy by hosting a special event for children.
Queen Camilla is once again proving her steady hand in royal life as she takes on more public duties amid fresh strains between King Charles and his son, Harry. The Duke of Sussex met his father at Clarence House last month for a private tea— their first reunion in nearly two years. The meeting, which included an exchange of gifts, had sparked hopes of reconciliation. However, those hopes dimmed when Harry reignited his legal challenge over security arrangements in the UK.
In the midst of the renewed tension, Camilla has taken it upon herself to lift the mood at Clarence House. On Tuesday, she welcomed guests to a reception celebrating the 100th anniversary of BookTrust, the UK’s largest children’s reading charity, of which she is Patron.
The guest list featured a host of literary figures, including BookTrust President Sir Michael Morpurgo, Children’s Laureate Frank Cottrell-Boyce, Dame Floella Benjamin, Richard Osman, Sir Philip Pullman, Dame Julia Donaldson and Malorie Blackman. Adding to the children’s delight, a special guest—Peter Rabbit—also made an appearance.
During the celebration, Camilla discussed the charity’s partnership with 30,000 community groups across England, Wales and Northern Ireland, reaffirming her commitment to supporting children’s love of reading and the power of storytelling.
