King Charles Keeps Frogmore Cottage for Harry and Meghan’s Children

The King’s decision hints he still hopes for Harry’s return to the UK with his family.

King Charles has reportedly decided to preserve Frogmore Cottage for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s family, suggesting the monarch still envisions a future for Harry, Meghan Markle, and their children in the UK.

This choice comes after speculation that the Duke of York would move into the couple’s former Windsor home once he leaves his residence at Royal Lodge. Although Andrew had requested to take over Frogmore Cottage, the King declined and instead arranged for his brother to relocate to a property on the Sandringham estate in Norfolk. The exact house remains undisclosed, though many believe it could be the six-bedroom Garden House.

A Palace source shared that the King was careful not to cause further strain between himself and Harry, explaining that giving Frogmore to Andrew “would have been like rubbing salt into the wounds.” The insider added that Charles views the cottage as a potential home for his grandchildren, Archie and Lilibet, should the Sussexes ever return to Britain.

Frogmore Cottage has a long royal history, dating back to the 19th century. It became well known when Harry and Meghan moved in after their wedding, spending £2.4 million—later reimbursed in full—on renovations. Originally a 10-bedroom house, the couple’s redesign turned it into a five-bedroom property complete with orangeries, a vegetable garden, and a yoga studio.

Now, with Andrew preparing to settle into a new home and Frogmore’s doors remaining open, the King’s move reflects both his sense of practicality and a lingering hope for family reconciliation.
