Monarch marks three years since Queen Elizabeth’s passing with £50,000 gift
King Charles has offered strong support to one of Queen Elizabeth II’s favourite parish churches by donating £50,000 toward urgent restoration work at St Peter and St Paul in West Newton. The contribution, listed in the church’s annual financial report, will help repair the ageing roof of the Grade II listed building on the Sandringham Estate.
The church, long associated with the late Queen and regularly visited by the royal family, needs about £200,000 to complete the project. Local supporters have already raised close to £78,000 since the appeal began in 2023, when parish leaders warned that the roof required prompt attention.
The work includes replacing the tiles on the north slopes of the Nave and Chancel roofs and carrying out repairs to the organ loft and transept. Leaders described the total cost as daunting but said they remained hopeful, pointing to strong community backing and the King’s donation as signs that the target is within reach.
Charles’ gift comes as he marks three years since his mother’s death in September 2022, offering a practical tribute to a place she held dear.
