Prince Andrew’s Hospital Plaque Removed After Royal Demotion

NHS Trust says it has ‘fully recovered’ from royal visit as traces of Duke fade away

Prince Andrew’s public legacy continues to shrink as yet another reminder of his former royal role quietly disappears. A plaque commemorating the 2019 opening of Chase Farm Hospital by Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor has been taken down following his official demotion by King Charles.

The Royal Free NHS Foundation Trust confirmed the removal, saying, “Following the events of recent days and the changes to his status, the plaque at Chase Farm Hospital is being taken down.” The Trust added that Andrew was removed as its patron in 2022 and “has had no association with our trust since then.”

At the time of the hospital’s opening, Andrew praised the facility’s “speed” and “intent” in improving patient care, marking what would become one of his last major appearances as a working royal.

While the hospital has moved to distance itself, not all reminders of the disgraced royal have vanished. In the town of Stotfold, a residential street named Prince Andrew Drive will remain unchanged—for now. Local councillors said renaming it would be “too inconvenient for residents,” given the administrative work and costs involved.

So as institutions quietly erase his name, one small street stands as an awkward remnant of a royal past the monarchy seems eager to forget.
