Prince of Wales keeps his promise ahead of key trip to Brazil
Prince William is following through on his pledge to back practical climate solutions as he prepares for his Brazil trip for the fifth Earthshot Prize awards. The Prince of Wales, who has long championed environmental action in the spirit of his father, King Charles, is making a change at home to match his words.
With repairs at Forest Lodge close to completion, the Wales family are set to move into what they see as their long-term home. As part of the final touches, William plans to fit an eco device created by a recent Earthshot finalist, Bristol-based Matter Industries. The company has designed a washing-machine filter that captures microplastics shed from clothing before they reach waterways.
Microplastics are a growing problem for seas and marine life. Tiny fragments can be mistaken for food by fish and other creatures, which disrupts ecosystems and enters the food chain. Installing a filter is a small step that can have a real effect over time.
By adopting a solution he has helped spotlight, William is signalling that the reforms he talks about start at home. If more households make similar tweaks, it could encourage wider changes that help protect the environment for everyone.
