Prince William takes his green goals to Brazil for landmark Rio visit

The Prince heads to Rio de Janeiro for the Earthshot Prize and a major wildlife summit, blending environmental advocacy with community sport.

Prince William is heading to Brazil next week for a solo visit that combines his passion for the planet with a dash of sport and inspiration for young changemakers. His trip will centre around the fifth annual Earthshot Prize Awards in Rio de Janeiro, promising both global attention and real action on climate challenges.

The future King’s schedule includes meetings, cultural visits, and a stop at the iconic Maracanã Stadium for a Generation Earthshot event. There, he’ll meet young people from across Latin America taking part in a three-day programme aimed at developing leadership skills for a greener future. Never one to sit out from the action, the devoted Aston Villa supporter is expected to join local youth and community leaders in football activities designed to promote teamwork, inclusion, and social progress.

A key moment of the trip will come at the United for Wildlife Global Summit, where William will deliver what organisers describe as a landmark address on protecting endangered species. The initiative, which he launched in 2013, brings together world leaders, philanthropists, and indigenous advocates to combat the illegal wildlife trade and strengthen global conservation efforts.

Between engagements, the Prince will take in some of Rio’s famous sights—from its beaches to its landmarks—while keeping his focus firmly on a mission that defines much of his public work: protecting the planet for generations to come.
