A birthday guest was left shaking with excitement during her Remembrance Day appearance
Catherine drew attention this week not for the dignity of her Remembrance Day tribute, but for a stumble on live television. During coverage of the service at the National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire on 11 November, BBC newsreader Rajini Vaidyanathan repeatedly referred to her as “Kate Middleton”. Viewers were quick to point out the mistake, noting that she has been known as Catherine, Princess of Wales for years.
MP Jim Shannon joined the criticism, saying the broadcaster should know her title changed long ago. The mix-up felt particularly avoidable given her progression from Duchess of Cambridge in 2011 to Princess of Wales after the accession of King Charles.
Away from the slip, Catherine made a warm impression on those who gathered to meet her. Before leaving the arboretum, she spoke with visitors, including Josephine Bradburn, who had just turned 72. Josephine admitted she was left shaking with excitement after Catherine took a moment to chat and shake her hand, calling it the best birthday gift she could imagine.
The day’s solemn observance saw Catherine lay a wreath at the heart of the memorial as service members and families marked the two-minute silence.
