Prince Harry and Meghan Markle cut three staff after Archewell reports losses

Charity filings reveal rising costs, falling donations and a restructuring at the Sussexes’ foundation

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have let go of three staff members at their charity after a difficult financial year, newly released filings show.

Accounts for the Archewell Foundation, now operating as Archewell Philanthropies, point to a sharp rise in spending alongside a drop in donations, according to reports from MailOnline.

The charity recorded $5.1 million in expenses in 2024, while donation income fell to $2.1 million. The gap left Archewell with a net loss of about $2.5 million for the year. Net assets now stand at $8.2 million, down from $10.7 million the year before.

As part of a restructuring linked to the rebrand, three employees were made redundant. This came after initial denials of staff changes, despite some team members being told their roles were ending because the charity was closing.

A spokesperson later said the full team remains in place overall, but confirmed that redundancies were unavoidable, particularly in junior administrative roles. They added that the organisation would not comment further on personnel matters and praised former staff for their commitment to helping others.

Archewell Philanthropies’ current team includes Harry’s longtime adviser and friend James Holt, along with Shauna Nep, who has previously worked with Justin Bieber’s wife Hailey Bieber and music executive Scooter Braun.

Harry and Meghan, who serve as directors of the charity, do not take a salary from Archewell.
