The Prince and Princess of Wales used tone and texture to signal warmth, unity and modern royalty
At first glance, the Christmas card shared by Prince William and Catherine looks simple. But fashion experts say the image carries a thoughtful message beneath its calm surface.
The Prince and Princess of Wales released the card on their official social media channels. The photograph, taken earlier this year by Josh Shinner in Norfolk, shows the couple smiling alongside their children, dressed in relaxed country-style clothing rather than traditional festive outfits.
Stylist Oriona Robb, speaking to the Daily Mail, said the styling choice was far from accidental. She described the image as “a masterclass in quiet cohesion,” pointing to the earthy colour palette and natural textures that run through each outfit.
According to Robb, the muted greens and soft browns create a sense of harmony without feeling forced. The look deliberately moves away from polished formality, leaning instead into warmth, approachability and authenticity.
Each family member keeps their own identity, she noted, but the shared tones subtly link them together. The result is what she calls modern royal dressing at its most effective: relaxed, emotionally aware and quietly reassuring.
In a Christmas setting, that message carries extra weight. The coordinated but lived-in style suggests stability and togetherness without spelling it out. There is nothing trend-led here. It feels timeless, intentional and designed to let the image speak for itself.
