David Beckham has spoken publicly for the first time since a social media post by his son reignited talk of a rift within the Beckham family.
Earlier, Brooklyn Beckham shared a message on Instagram that many read as a pointed reference to strained ties with his parents, including Victoria Beckham. While David did not mention his son by name, his comments appeared to touch directly on the situation.
Speaking on CNBC’s Squawk Box, Beckham reflected on the influence of social media, calling it both powerful and risky. He said he has long spoken about its ability to do good, but also warned that what children can access online “can be dangerous” if misused.
He went on to explain that, in his own experience, social platforms can be valuable when used responsibly. Beckham pointed to his long-standing work with UNICEF, saying social media has helped him raise awareness about issues affecting children around the world. He added that he has tried to pass those lessons on to his own children.
“Kids make mistakes, and they’re allowed to,” he said, stressing that mistakes are part of how they learn. According to Beckham, parents sometimes need to step back and allow that process to happen.
His remarks followed an earlier appearance at the World Economic Forum’s annual meeting in Davos, where he sidestepped direct questions about family tensions.
The controversy began when Brooklyn suggested that his parents had negatively affected his relationship with his wife, Nicola Peltz Beckham, adding a new layer to ongoing public speculation about the family dynamic.
