The monarch is said to want reconciliation, but the Prince of Wales is not convinced
Prince William has held a high-profile meeting at Windsor Castle amid reports that King Charles III is trying to rebuild bridges with his estranged son, Prince Harry.
Royal reporter Cameron Walker shared an update on X after the Prince of Wales met Scotland’s First Minister, John Swinney. He said the pair discussed William and Catherine’s recent visit to Stirling and Falkirk, as well as wider issues affecting Scottish communities.
The timing of the meeting has caught attention because it comes alongside claims that the King is considering a major personal gesture towards Harry and Meghan Markle. Royal commentator Rob Shuter reports that Charles is thinking about inviting the couple to stay at his private retreat, Balmoral Castle.
A palace insider told Shuter that Balmoral is deeply personal to the King, and offering it to Harry and Meghan would be a powerful sign of trust and forgiveness. “It would show he genuinely wants to heal the relationship,” the source said.
But William is said to be firmly against the idea. One insider claims he feels it would be “too much, too soon” and worries that reopening family contact at such a private location could bring old tensions straight back to the surface.
While Charles appears ready to extend an olive branch, the Prince of Wales is reportedly focused on protecting the future stability of the monarchy. For now, father and son seem to be pulling in different directions, and any reunion with Harry still looks far from certain.
