Courtiers say the Princess of Wales is quietly asserting authority ahead of the next era
Queen Camilla is said to be uneasy about her future role as plans for the next phase of the monarchy gather pace. Insiders claim tension has grown between her and Catherine, with palace staff warning that Catherine’s influence will only increase as she moves closer to becoming queen.
According to RadarOnline, courtiers have made it clear that Camilla’s standing will shift once Catherine takes on the top role. One source says Camilla may have to accept reduced influence and fewer privileges, even if doing so is personally difficult.
The strain reportedly flared after Catherine wore Queen Victoria’s Oriental Circlet tiara at a recent state banquet. The piece is traditionally linked with future queens, and the choice was seen by some as a pointed signal of what is to come. Camilla, the source claims, viewed it as an attempt to overshadow her and King Charles III.
Despite this, Camilla is not without allies. A palace insider says some within the Firm believe she deserves more respect while she remains queen and should not be sidelined too quickly.
Still, the same source adds that the Waleses have already shown they can be firm when protecting their position, pointing to how they have handled tensions involving Andrew and the Sussexes. “Camilla knows what they are capable of,” the insider says. “People are telling her to accept the reality and stop damaging her own future standing.”
Whether she chooses to fall in line or continue pushing back remains to be seen.
