The Prince and Princess of Wales are being encouraged to carry on as normal as tensions rise following the latest scandal involving Prince Andrew.
As scrutiny around the Royal Family intensifies, Prince William and Catherine are being urged not to retreat from public life. Commentators say the couple should continue with their duties and maintain a visible presence, even as uncomfortable headlines swirl.
Culture expert Nick Ede told HELLO! that the Prince and Princess understand what is expected of them during difficult moments.
“They have always been at the heart of cultural moments, and they know they have a duty to the country to show up and stay quiet,” he said. Ede added that the couple are unlikely to avoid responsibility and may even increase public-facing engagements to steady the narrative and project stability.
The renewed focus comes as Prince Andrew, the King’s brother, spent a day under arrest, a development that has added fresh strain to an already fragile situation for the monarchy.
Royal expert Duncan Larcombe told Rolling Stone that the situation could have serious consequences, particularly for King Charles.
“This is something that is potentially hugely damaging, and for the King, it’s the stuff of nightmares,” Larcombe said. He suggested the Palace was well aware of what was coming and that protecting the Crown now takes priority over family loyalty. “Self-preservation is more important,” he noted, adding that the King is unlikely to intervene on his brother’s behalf.
Larcombe also pointed to William’s role as future monarch, saying he understands the broader risk to the institution. According to the royal expert, William is acutely aware of how damaging the situation could be for the wider Royal Family and is focused on keeping the monarchy steady at a volatile time.
