Commentators say the children’s place in the monarchy may depend on whether family tensions are resolved
Royal experts have raised doubts about whether the Duke of Sussex and Meghan Markle’s children could one day return to an active role within the Royal Family.
The discussion comes as commentators continue to examine the future of Archie and Lilibet, who have grown up in California away from royal life.
Speaking to the Daily Express, royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams suggested that Harry may spend more time in the UK after resolving issues surrounding his security arrangements. However, he argued that it remains unclear how Archie and Lilibet might fit into the royal structure in the future.
“Harry will undoubtedly be back in the UK now he has got his security sorted, which could pave the way for Meghan to visit as well,” Fitzwilliams said. “But she is hugely unpopular, so it is difficult to see how Archie and Lilibet would fit into the family in the future.”
According to royal insiders, the children’s potential return to the royal fold may remain unlikely while tensions continue between their parents and senior members of the Royal Family, including King Charles, Prince William and Catherine.
Royal commentator and best-selling author Robert Jobson also expressed uncertainty about the children’s future role.
“These are children who have grown up in California, largely shielded from royal life as we understand it,” he explained. “Whether they would ever want a role — and whether the Palace would welcome it — depends entirely on what happens between their father and the King in the years ahead.”
Jobson added that the path to reconciliation still appears distant.
“It is not impossible,” he said, “but it feels remote while the rift between Harry and the institution remains so deep.”
