Future king praises Swimathon’s 40-year legacy of fundraising and community spirit
Prince William has shared a heartfelt message of support for Swimathon, the world’s largest annual pool-based fundraising swim, as the event celebrates its 40th anniversary.
Taking to Instagram on Saturday, the Prince of Wales encouraged participants and praised the impact the challenge has had over the decades. Swimathon brings together swimmers of all ages and abilities, allowing them to complete different distances while raising money for important causes.
The event mainly supports charities including Cancer Research UK and Marie Curie, helping fund research and care for people affected by serious illness.
According to organisers, the 2026 event will take place from 20 to 22 March, with more than 450 swimming pools across the United Kingdom hosting the challenge. Thousands of participants are expected to dive in and contribute to the fundraising effort.
In his message, signed simply with his initial, William congratulated Swimathon on reaching the milestone anniversary and recognised the dedication of everyone involved.
“Congratulations to Swimathon on 40 years of bringing people together through swimming. It’s so inspiring to see hundreds of thousands of people taking part while raising millions for life-changing charities,” he wrote.
Swimathon organisers have also encouraged the public to join the celebration, inviting people to “make a splash this spring” by signing up for the landmark event.
Over the past four decades, Swimathon has grown into a nationwide initiative, raising millions of pounds for charity while inspiring communities to stay active and support vital health causes.
