Royal insiders claim urgent discussions are growing as concerns over the monarch’s health increase
Reports suggest that King Charles could consider stepping down from the throne shortly after Trooping the Colour this June, as concerns about his health continue to grow.
According to claims published by New Idea, insiders believe the monarch may abdicate in favour of his elder son, Prince William, within weeks. The report states that preparations are already accelerating behind the scenes, with Prince William and Catherine being quietly fast-tracked for a larger role within the monarchy.
A source close to the royal household told the outlet that the King could step aside “in a matter of weeks,” pointing to his health as the main reason such discussions are taking place.
Speculation intensified following a recent state banquet held in honour of the Nigerian president earlier this month. Observers noted that the Prince and Princess of Wales appeared to take a leading role during the event, projecting confidence and energy while the King seemed noticeably fatigued.
According to the insider, the monarch appeared frail during the evening and struggled to maintain his composure at times, even seeming close to slumping into his chair due to exhaustion.
Palace courtiers have also reportedly acknowledged that the King is finding it difficult to keep up with even a reduced schedule of royal engagements. This has allegedly prompted a rise in urgent conversations about whether stepping aside could soon become necessary.
Prince William, who is next in line to the throne, is said to be increasingly taking on more responsibilities as preparations quietly continue for a possible transition.
