King Charles Gives Princess Anne Special Role in Tribute to Late Queen

Princess Royal to open new garden honouring Queen Elizabeth II in Regent’s Park

King Charles has confirmed a special role for his sister, Princess Anne, as the royal family prepares to mark an important milestone connected to the late Queen Elizabeth II.

The Princess Royal will officially open the Queen Elizabeth II Garden in London’s Regent’s Park on April 21, the date associated with the late monarch’s birthday. The event forms part of the wider commemorations celebrating the centenary of Queen Elizabeth II.

Although the opening ceremony will take place on that day, the garden itself will welcome visitors from April 27.

Designed as a tribute to the late Queen’s remarkable life of dedication, the garden reflects her legacy of steadfast service. Each end of the space has been created to offer visitors a calm place for reflection, echoing the monarch’s enduring commitment to duty.

The site also features wildlife-friendly planting, a large pond, and seating areas where visitors can pause and enjoy the surroundings. A pergola marks the southern entrance, while a landscaped walking trail allows guests to explore the garden at a leisurely pace.

Princess Anne’s role in opening the garden is one of several events planned to honour the late monarch’s centenary. King Charles is also expected to deliver a pre-recorded message to the nation, reaffirming his dedication to public service and the values upheld by his mother throughout her reign.

The update follows a recent release from Buckingham Palace, which shared a commemorative video highlighting historic moments from Queen Elizabeth II’s life and reign.
