King Charles III made an emotional visit to York Hospital as he recognised the inspiring work of staff, volunteers, and cancer patients at the newly redeveloped Sir Robert Ogden Macmillan Cancer Centre.
The monarch, who has served as Patron of Macmillan Cancer Support since 1997, spent time meeting healthcare workers and local people living with cancer during the heartfelt engagement.
Photos from the visit were later shared on the official Instagram account of the British royal family. In the caption, the palace praised the “inspiring Macmillan Cancer patients and staff” and highlighted the King’s continued support for cancer care services.
According to the post, Charles met patients and staff members who helped shape the design of the new cancer centre through their personal experiences.
During the visit, the King also planted a rose in the hospital garden, a peaceful outdoor space created to give visitors a chance to enjoy nature while spending time at the centre.
The engagement comes as Charles continues treatment for an undisclosed form of cancer following his diagnosis in early 2024. Palace officials have previously said the King is responding exceptionally well to treatment, with his care now moved into what doctors described as a “precautionary phase.”
