King Charles has reportedly been warned he could damage the future image of the monarchy by refusing to live at Buckingham Palace once renovations are complete.
The concerns were raised by royal expert Richard Eden in the latest edition of the Daily Mail’s Palace Confidential newsletter.
According to Eden, Buckingham Palace renovations are expected to finish next year, but the King and Queen are still not planning to make the historic residence their permanent home.
Citing a royal insider, the expert claimed: “Buckingham Palace will be used for royal events but the King and Queen won’t sleep there.”
Eden admitted the reported decision left him “worried for the future of the monarchy.”
He argued that Buckingham Palace carries enormous symbolic importance for the Royal Family and warned that stepping away from it could send the wrong message.
“Churchill knew the symbolic power of the Queen being at the nation’s home. For King Charles to abandon it at a time of peace would be a serious mistake,” Eden wrote.
Interior designer and longtime royal friend Nicky Haslam also criticised the reported plan, saying: “Turning Buckingham Palace into an office is wrong. It will have no magic.”
Haslam further suggested Prince William may eventually make the same choice as his father.
“William won't use it either. It stops Buckingham Palace being the jewel in the crown,” he claimed.
William and Catherine moved to Windsor in 2022 and are said to prefer life away from central London. Reports claim the couple have no plans to return to living full-time in the capital in the future.
