Commentators compare Sussexes’ overseas trips to King Charles’s diplomatic success
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have come under renewed criticism, with one commentator dismissing their international visits as “fake royal tours” while praising King Charles III for what was described as a highly successful trip to the United States.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, who are reportedly planning a visit to Africa in the coming months, were contrasted sharply with the King’s recent diplomatic efforts. Critics argue that Charles’s engagements reflect the traditional role of the monarchy, while Harry and Meghan’s appearances are seen by some as lacking the same weight.
Broadcaster Piers Morgan delivered one of the strongest reactions, calling the King’s US visit “a masterclass in diplomacy.” Speaking on his podcast, he described it as “a historic triumph” and used the moment to take aim at the Sussexes, referring to them as “worms” and suggesting the trip highlighted “what real royalty looks like.”
Meanwhile, royal commentator Katie Nicholl addressed the ongoing strain between the King and his younger son. She claimed that a lack of trust has played a major role in their distance, particularly concerns that private conversations could become public.
According to Nicholl, sources close to the King believe their relationship has reached a low point. She added that Harry’s approach to communication, including not following formal channels, has further complicated efforts to repair ties.
The contrast between the Sussexes’ independent path and the King’s traditional role continues to fuel debate, especially as both sides pursue very different public engagements on the global stage.
