Prince William to Mark Mental Health Awareness Week With New James’ Place Centre

Prince William is set to highlight Mental Health Awareness Week by supporting the launch of a new suicide prevention centre in Birmingham.

According to GB News, the Prince of Wales will officially visit the new James’ Place facility on May 11 as part of ongoing efforts to raise awareness around mental health and suicide prevention.

The organisation was founded after the tragic death of a 21-year-old man named James, who took his own life just days after undergoing a minor surgical procedure. Reports said he had struggled with severe anxiety and suicidal thoughts but was unable to access the support he needed in time.

In response to the loss, James’ parents established James’ Place in 2008 to help other families avoid similar heartbreak.

Since its creation, the charity has reportedly supported more than 5,100 men facing suicidal crises through its centres across the UK.

William is expected to tour the Birmingham site and meet staff members, local partners, and individuals who previously received help through the organisation’s services.

The Prince of Wales has already opened similar James’ Place centres in Liverpool, London, and Newcastle as part of his ongoing mental health work.

The report also noted that funding from The Royal Foundation has helped launch two satellite support services in the North East and North West of England. The 12-month trial aims to expand access to free therapeutic support within local communities.
