Former Duchess of York Sarah Ferguson has reportedly been warned to remain in the background following the palace announcement that her daughter, Princess Eugenie, is expecting her third child.
Buckingham Palace confirmed the happy news, revealing that Eugenie and her husband, Jack Brooksbank, are preparing to welcome another baby this summer.
The statement read: “Her Royal Highness Princess Eugenie and Mr Jack Brooksbank are very pleased to announce that they are expecting their third child together, due this summer.
“August (aged 5) and Ernest (aged 2) are also very excited to have another sibling join the family.”
The palace also shared that King Charles III had been informed of the news and was “delighted” by the announcement.
Following the update, royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams claimed Sarah Ferguson would need to keep a low profile despite the family celebrations.
Speaking to the Daily Express, he said: “This is very happy news and has been welcomed by the King, who is known to be extremely fond of his nieces. Sarah Ferguson will undoubtedly be delighted.”
However, he added that both Ferguson and Prince Andrew would likely stay out of the spotlight, referencing the christening of Eugenie’s daughter Athena last year.
“As we saw with Andrew when Athena was christened last December, she will have to keep a low profile. He was not included in the christening photographs and nor was she,” the expert explained.
Fitzwilliams also suggested there was little chance of a royal comeback for Ferguson after recent controversies.
“There may be possibilities for interviews if she decides to go down that path, but there are no comeback possibilities after recent events,” he said.
He concluded: “Taking a backseat isn’t in her nature, but for Eugenie’s sake, she has no choice.”
