The monarch and the Princess of Wales joined forces at a special reception celebrating 125 years of Cancer Research UK.
King Charles and Catherine presented a united front during a significant royal engagement focused on cancer awareness and research.
The monarch and the Princess of Wales attended a reception at St. James’s Palace in London on June 2, alongside Queen Camilla, to mark the 125th anniversary of Cancer Research UK.
The event recognised the charity’s longstanding contributions to cancer prevention, diagnosis and treatment, while also highlighting recent advances in medical research.
Their appearance carried added significance as both Charles and Catherine publicly revealed cancer diagnoses in 2024. The King announced his diagnosis in February and continues to receive treatment. A month later, Catherine disclosed her own diagnosis and temporarily stepped away from public duties while undergoing care.
After completing chemotherapy in September 2024, the Princess of Wales confirmed in January 2025 that she was in remission.
During the reception, Charles and Catherine met researchers, clinicians, volunteers and cancer patients whose efforts and experiences have helped shape the charity’s work over the years.
The engagement also reflected the close relationship shared by the King and the wife of Prince William. Author Sally Bedell Smith previously told People magazine that Catherine is "like the daughter he never had," highlighting the strong bond between the two senior royals.
