Royal couple to attend opening of new Scottish Parliament following May elections
King Charles and Queen Camilla are preparing to travel to Scotland later this month to take part in a major parliamentary event marking the start of a new legislative term.
The King and Queen will attend the official opening of the new Scottish Parliament on June 27, an occasion being described as a significant milestone in Scotland's political calendar.
During the ceremony, Charles is expected to deliver an address as the new parliamentary session formally begins following the Holyrood elections held in May.
The event will bring together elected representatives, community leaders and performers in a celebration of Scotland's democratic process and cultural heritage.
According to local reports, the programme will feature performances highlighting Scottish talent, including contributions from the National Theatre of Scotland and the National Youth Choir of Scotland.
Following the formal proceedings, the King and Queen are expected to meet a group of "local heroes" nominated by Members of the Scottish Parliament from constituencies and regions across the country.
The upcoming visit follows the royal couple's appearance at Holyrood in 2024, when they joined celebrations marking the Scottish Parliament's 25th anniversary.
