Meghan Markle's One-Word Joke Left Catherine Speechless at Trooping the Colour

Prince Harry recalled an awkward moment between Meghan Markle and Catherine during the 2018 royal celebration

An awkward exchange between Meghan Markle and Catherine has resurfaced as the Royal Family celebrated Trooping the Colour on Saturday.

The moment dates back to 2018, when Meghan made her first appearance at the annual royal event just weeks after marrying Harry.

In his memoir Spare, Harry recalled that the atmosphere among family members was upbeat as they gathered for the traditional military parade. During a conversation, Catherine asked Meghan what she thought of her first Trooping the Colour celebration.

According to Harry, Meghan responded with a light-hearted joke, replying: "Colourful."

The Duke of Sussex wrote that the remark was followed by an uncomfortable silence, describing it as "a yawning silence" that seemed to engulf the group.

The exchange has once again drawn attention to the reported tensions between Meghan and Catherine. Harry has previously argued that comparisons made by the British media fuelled perceptions of rivalry between the two women.

Meanwhile, as this year's Trooping the Colour celebrations got underway, Buckingham Palace shared a photograph of King Charles and Queen Camilla preparing to leave the palace for the event.

"The King and Queen leave Buckingham Palace for The King's Birthday Parade, also known as Trooping the Colour," the palace wrote alongside the post.
