King Charles was reportedly overjoyed to reunite with his grandchildren, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, during their recent visit to the UK.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are said to have brought their children to Highgrove House, where the family spent private time with the King and Queen Camilla. The meeting reportedly marked Charles’ first opportunity to see his California-based grandchildren in four years.
According to Closer, the reunion “meant the world” to the King and gave him renewed hope that he could spend more time with Archie and Lilibet in the future.
“Charles came away from this visit very pleased,” a source told the publication. “Spending time with Archie and Lilibet meant the world to him, and he has told everyone they were an absolute delight.”
The insider claimed that building a relationship with his grandchildren played a major role in Charles’ decision to reopen the door to Harry and Meghan.
“It’s no secret that getting to know them was the driving motivation for opening the door again to Harry and Meghan,” the source said. “But Charles has really put his neck on the line by inviting them back into the fold.”
The meeting was also described as “extraordinary,” given the opposition the King has reportedly faced from some members of the Royal Family over renewed contact with the Sussexes.
Harry, Meghan, Archie and Lilibet reportedly reunited with King Charles and Queen Camilla at Highgrove House on July 10. While the Palace has not publicly shared details of the private gathering, the visit is being seen as a hopeful step toward repairing strained family relationships.
