Prince Harry could travel to South Korea in 2029 after the Invictus Games Foundation announced that Daejeon will host the ninth edition of the international sporting event.
The foundation, which was established by the Duke of Sussex, selected Daejeon following what it described as a highly competitive bidding process.
“I AM Coming to the Republic of Korea!” the charity wrote on social media. “The Invictus Games Foundation is delighted to announce that Daejeon, Republic of Korea, has been selected to host the Invictus Games in 2029.”
The foundation will now work with the Daejeon organizing committee to finalize an event-hosting agreement before detailed preparations begin.
The Games are scheduled to take place from October 6 to 15, 2029. Around 550 competitors from 26 countries are expected to participate in 12 sports, supported by approximately 1,100 family members and friends.
Daejeon 2029 will be the first Invictus Games held in Asia, marking an important step in the continued international growth of the movement.
The foundation also thanked the other shortlisted cities for their proposals.
“We would like to thank Aalborg, Denmark, and San Diego, United States, for their outstanding bids,” its statement said. “Their passion, vision and commitment made this one of the strongest and most competitive host city processes to date.”
The Games bring together wounded, injured and sick service personnel and veterans from participating nations. Through sport, the event aims to support recovery, restore confidence and recognize the important role played by competitors’ families and communities.
Although Prince Harry’s attendance has not been formally confirmed, he has remained closely involved with the Invictus Games since founding the event. His role makes a visit to South Korea in 2029 appear likely.
