Prince Harry has faced renewed criticism following reports that he hopes to make more trips to the UK if his taxpayer-funded security is restored.
The Duke of Sussex is reportedly more determined to secure full protection after King Charles reunited with Harry, Meghan Markle and their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, earlier this month.
The family reportedly met at Highgrove on July 10, marking their first reunion in four years.
Harry has been involved in a long-running dispute with the UK government over his security arrangements since he stepped back from royal duties and moved to the United States in 2020.
Last year, he lost an appeal against the decision to provide him with security on a case-by-case basis whenever he visits Britain.
The latest reports have prompted criticism from some social media users. “We don’t want him here,” one person wrote on X.
Another questioned why Harry needed protection in Britain if he was happy and settled overseas. A third argued that he should not receive taxpayer-funded security after choosing to leave his role as a working royal.
According to The Mirror, Harry is expected to ask the new home secretary to review his security arrangements following a change in government.
The duke has repeatedly said that security concerns are among the main reasons Meghan and their children rarely accompany him to the UK. He has argued that Archie and Lilibet cannot feel at home in Britain if their safety cannot be guaranteed during visits.
In a BBC interview last year, Harry claimed that the King was not speaking to him because of the security dispute. Despite their strained relationship, he expressed hope that the royal family could eventually reconcile.
