Prince William and Kate Middleton are reportedly thinking carefully about how to protect Prince George from the pressures of technology as he prepares to move on to senior school.
The Prince and Princess of Wales are expected to send their eldest son to Eton College, where Prince William was also educated. However, the transition may bring a significant change for George, particularly when it comes to mobile phones and internet access.
Royal editor Rebecca English wrote in the Daily Mail that the couple naturally have concerns about raising their children in an increasingly digital world.
“The couple have refused to allow their children to have mobile phones, although admit that will change with their eldest at senior school,” she wrote.
Royal commentator Sarah Hewson also told Vanity Fair that George is unlikely to receive an iPhone for his thirteenth birthday.
“His parents are very hot on phones, and they won’t allow him on social media,” Hewson said. “They want to protect him from that for as long as they can.”
Prince William previously addressed the issue in November 2025, suggesting that George might eventually be allowed a basic device with limited features.
“I think when George moves on to secondary school, then maybe he might have a phone that has no internet access,” William said.
Like many parents, William and Kate appear to be trying to balance their son’s growing independence with concerns about online safety, social media and excessive screen time.
