The Queen visited a Norfolk charity supporting people affected by homelessness and trauma.
Queen Camilla travelled to Norfolk to show her support for a charity helping people rebuild their lives after experiencing homelessness.
The Queen visited Emmaus Norfolk Waveney, an organisation that provides accommodation, practical support and employment opportunities to people facing homelessness and trauma.
In a statement, the royal family said Camilla met residents at the charity’s new centre for women. The residents, known as companions, spoke to her about their experiences of overcoming homelessness and recovering from difficult circumstances.
During the visit, Camilla also toured the charity’s on-site shop and a working forge, where companions create jewellery that is later sold to raise funds.
She also visited the new Book Nook, which has received support from The Queen’s Reading Room, Camilla’s literary initiative.
The Queen has served as patron of Emmaus UK for 20 years and has regularly highlighted the organisation’s work with vulnerable people.
Camilla is not the only senior royal supporting efforts to address homelessness in the United Kingdom.
Prince William launched Homewards in 2023 through The Royal Foundation. The five-year programme aims to demonstrate that homelessness can be prevented by bringing local organisations, businesses and community leaders together.
Marking the initiative’s third anniversary last month, William said the programme had already helped thousands of people avoid housing crises.
The Prince of Wales has supported homelessness charities for decades. His interest in the issue was shaped by visits he made as a child with his mother, the late Princess Diana, including a trip to a homeless shelter when he was 11 years old.
William has previously said that homelessness is an area where he believes he can make a meaningful difference as heir to the throne.
With Camilla continuing her work as patron of Emmaus UK and William expanding the Homewards programme, tackling homelessness remains an important cause for the royal family.
