Queen Camilla is reportedly facing a difficult choice as she considers what her role in the Royal Family could look like in the years ahead.
Despite appearing cordial in public, Camilla and Prince William are said to share an uneasy relationship. According to sources, an undercurrent of mistrust remains between them, raising questions about Camilla’s position once William becomes king.
An insider told Closer Online that Camilla hopes to retain a prominent place within the monarchy, even if King Charles is no longer by her side.
“Camilla would like to hold onto her position within the monarchy moving forwards, even if Charles, God forbid, is not around,” the source claimed.
The insider added that Camilla enjoys her ceremonial duties and the public profile attached to them, but is particularly concerned about being pushed aside in the future.
That uncertainty may explain why she is reportedly more open to repairing relations with Prince Harry, despite her alleged grievances with both him and Meghan Markle.
“As many gripes as she has about Harry and Meghan, ultimately, they are not a threat to her the way that William and Kate are,” the source said, noting that the Prince and Princess of Wales will eventually be in a position to determine Camilla’s future role.
However, any attempt to strengthen ties with Harry could prove risky if it deepens existing tensions with William, the very person who may ultimately decide how prominent a role she continues to hold.
