A former royal butler has dismissed speculation of tension between Prince William and King Charles, insisting the father and son share a close and supportive relationship.
Rumours of a possible rift have continued to circulate since the King announced his cancer diagnosis, with renewed discussion about William’s future role as monarch.
Grant Harrold, who worked for the Royal Family for several years, including during Princess Diana’s lifetime, has now offered his view on the relationship between Charles and his eldest son.
Speaking to Showbiz Cheat Sheet on behalf of Heart Bingo Online, Harrold said the pair remain “really close.”
“The two of them support each other,” he explained. “The King is great at giving William advice and guidance.”
Harrold added that William has also been a strong source of support for his father, describing their relationship as “wonderful.”
According to the former butler, their bond has naturally changed as William has taken on greater responsibilities and prepared for his eventual role as King.
“Their relationship evolved with the King guiding and helping William progress into his future role as Prince of Wales, and his eventual role as King,” he said.
Harrold also noted that William has become more confident in sharing his opinions and offering advice to his father.
He does not believe the King’s coronation caused any major change in their relationship, although Charles’ increased workload may mean they spend less time together than before.
“I don’t think there is a huge difference in their relationship,” Harrold said. “Obviously, the King’s got a lot more responsibilities, and he is a lot busier. They probably don’t see each other as much as they used to, but that’s all.”
