What reportedly went wrong between Meghan and King Charles at Highgrove
Meghan Markle reportedly returned from the UK feeling hurt and questioning whether her efforts to repair relations with the royal family had been worthwhile.
According to Heat magazine, the Duchess of Sussex had made a conscious decision to put her painful experiences with the royals behind her. She was said to be ready to forgive, move forward and support Prince Harry as he worked to rebuild his relationship with his family.
However, a source claimed the visit did not go as Meghan had hoped. One issue that allegedly upset her was the royal family’s failure to acknowledge her birthday.
“Meghan genuinely wants to get along with Harry’s family, and she feels like she’s gone above and beyond to make that happen,” the source said.
“It’s not just about the effort she put in during their time in England; she’s spent a long time biting her tongue and letting go of a lot of resentment.”
The insider also shed light on Meghan’s reported feelings toward King Charles. Although she reportedly accepts that the monarch has made more of an effort in recent months, she is still said to feel that she and Harry are usually the ones responsible for keeping communication going.
“Yes, Charles has begun making more of an effort in recent months, but even still, they always have to be the ones to reach out,” the source claimed.
“And the same goes for the rest of the family that they still speak to. It’s almost always the Sussexes that have to make the effort, or at least that’s Meghan’s feeling.”
Meghan is not expected to speak publicly about the alleged birthday snub. Behind closed doors, however, it has reportedly left her wondering how much longer she should continue trying if those efforts are not being returned.
“She’s not going to make a fuss publicly about not getting any sort of birthday acknowledgement from the royals,” the insider added. “But privately, it has left her wondering why she should keep putting herself out there if the effort isn’t being reciprocated.”
The claims remain based on an unnamed source and have not been publicly confirmed by Meghan, King Charles or Buckingham Palace.
