King Charles has come under criticism following renewed attention on Prince Harry’s recent visit to the UK, with some commentators accusing the monarch of ignoring the boundaries set by the late Queen Elizabeth II.
The criticism emerged during a conversation between comedian Mark Dolan and The Royalist editor Tom Sykes, who discussed concerns that Harry could be allowed to rebuild a public royal presence despite stepping back from official duties.
Sykes argued that Charles may be giving his younger son too much freedom to operate alongside the monarchy.
“My concern is that Charles is enabling Harry to establish a rival court in complete defiance of what his mother, in her wisdom, laid down,” he said.
Dolan agreed and claimed that Harry’s recent meeting with the King went against the arrangement he had previously made with Queen Elizabeth.
He accused the Duke of Sussex of “tearing up his agreement with the late Queen” and described the situation as a betrayal of her memory.
“It’s horrible that the late Queen is being betrayed in this way by a grandson who claims to have loved and admired her,” Dolan said.
He argued that Harry had agreed to certain conditions before stepping away from royal life but was now going back on that understanding while the late Queen was no longer present to enforce it.
Dolan also suggested that Queen Elizabeth would have taken a firmer approach than Charles.
“If she were still here, I think she would enforce it,” he said. “She would be a lot tougher than Charles has been.”
