Prince Harry seeks family security assurances ahead of UK return

Prince Harry is reportedly seeking answers about his family’s security as he prepares to return to the UK.

The Duke of Sussex is said to have contacted Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood to ask whether Meghan Markle and their children would receive police protection while in Britain. According to the Daily Mail, Harry privately appealed for clarity over the arrangements, which could reportedly cost as much as £5 million a year.

Harry has been locked in a long-running dispute over his security since stepping down as a working royal and moving to the United States with Meghan and their children.

The duke previously challenged the decision to change the level of protection he receives in the UK. Although his legal appeal was unsuccessful, he continued to request a fresh assessment of the risks facing him and his family.

His security arrangements were reportedly reviewed by the Royal and VIP Executive Committee in July. However, the committee was allegedly unaware of his planned UK return at the time.

Reports have suggested that Harry and his family could receive publicly funded protection under revised arrangements. The cost could increase further if the duke eventually chooses to live in Britain permanently.

However, the Home Office has not announced the outcome of its latest review, while officials have yet to confirm whether taxpayer-funded protection has been approved for the Sussex family.
