Questions are being raised over what Prince Harry really hopes to achieve by rebuilding his relationship with King Charles and the wider royal family.
As speculation continues over a possible royal reconciliation, attention has also turned to Prince William, who is reportedly far less convinced about his younger brother’s intentions.
Emily Ferguson, royal editor at the Daily Express, recently examined the increasingly complicated situation facing the King. According to the commentator, Charles may find himself torn between his personal desire to repair his relationship with Harry and his responsibility to protect the monarchy from further controversy.
Ferguson noted that Harry has repeatedly spoken about wanting to reconcile with his family, writing that his desire to mend relations is hardly a secret.
However, she questioned whether there may be more behind his efforts to reconnect with the King.
The royal commentator suggested that some observers believe a public appearance alongside Charles could potentially help Harry’s campaign for taxpayer-funded security in Britain. She also argued that renewed links with the monarchy could generate valuable publicity for the Invictus Games.
From a more sceptical perspective, Ferguson suggested that Harry could also benefit from rebuilding some of his royal standing, which may later prove useful to both him and Meghan Markle.
Those suspicions are reportedly causing concern behind Palace walls.
According to Ferguson, some royal insiders fear that Charles’ desire to see his younger son and spend more time with his grandchildren could leave him vulnerable to being influenced by Harry.
She claimed those concerns are particularly strong at Kensington Palace, where William is said to remain deeply wary of his brother’s motives.
The Prince of Wales reportedly understands why his father wants to repair his relationship with Harry, but is believed to be firmly against allowing any private reconciliation to develop into another highly public royal drama.
Ferguson wrote that William does not want his father’s attempts to reconnect with Harry to “spill out into the public” and create further attention around the long-running family feud.
Neither Prince William nor King Charles has publicly confirmed these reported concerns about Harry, and the claims surrounding their private views remain based on commentary and unnamed Palace sources.
