Supporters of Prince William and Prince Harry have reacted with excitement after their uncle, Charles Spencer, announced a new book about his late sister, Princess Diana.
Titled Swan Song: Diana, My Sister, the book is expected to offer a deeply personal account of Diana’s life ahead of the 30th anniversary of her tragic death.
Penguin Books describes the memoir as Spencer’s most intimate, loving and honest portrait of his sister yet. The book will reportedly explore Diana’s story through his own memories while challenging some of the claims about her that he believes have been wrongly accepted as truth.
News of the book comes shortly after Prince Harry and Meghan Markle reportedly stayed at Spencer’s Althorp Estate during their latest trip to the United Kingdom. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are also said to have visited Diana’s grave while they were there.
Royal watchers, including supporters of the California-based couple, welcomed the announcement on social media. Many said they were looking forward to hearing Diana’s story from her brother and hoped the memoir would reveal previously unknown details about her life.
Swan Song: Diana, My Sister is due to be released in Britain next month before being published internationally. Michael Joseph, an imprint of Penguin Random House, said the book would tell Diana’s story from her brother’s perspective.
“With the 30th anniversary of Diana’s tragic death on the skyline, I’ve been inundated yet again with requests for interviews about my sister,” Spencer said in a statement.
“This has convinced me to write down my own thoughts and memories, once and for all, rather than having the discomfort of again reading the opinions of others, many of which are based on untruths that have become accepted over time.”
