Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are reportedly considering a temporary move to the UK, with King Charles’ health believed to be a major factor in their decision.
According to royal insiders, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex want to spend more time with the King while also giving their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, an opportunity to develop closer relationships with relatives in Britain.
“I know that Charles is a big reason for their return,” one insider claimed.
Harry has previously spoken about the uncertainty surrounding his father’s health following the King’s cancer diagnosis.
“I don’t know how much longer my father has,” the Duke told the BBC.
The Sussexes reportedly decided to leave California temporarily following Harry’s meeting with King Charles in July. However, the move is not expected to be permanent, and the couple reportedly plans to keep their family home in California.
Family ties are also said to be influencing the decision. Harry and Meghan reportedly want Archie and Lilibet to spend more time with members of their extended family in the UK.
Any reunion with Prince William’s family, however, may be less likely. Relations between the brothers reportedly remain strained, with sources claiming that the Prince of Wales is still not speaking to Harry. As a result, Archie and Lilibet may have limited contact with Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.
The Sussexes remain close to Harry’s cousin Princess Eugenie and her family. Eugenie and her husband, Jack Brooksbank, divide their time between the UK and Portugal, where Harry and Meghan are also reported to own a holiday property.
Security remains one of the biggest obstacles to the family spending more time in Britain. Harry has repeatedly expressed concern about bringing Meghan and their children to the UK without what he considers adequate police protection.
The Duke is now awaiting the outcome of a review by the government body responsible for decisions concerning its security arrangements. This decision could play an important role in determining how, and for how long, the Sussex family returns to the UK.
