Prince Harry’s return to Britain could create an uncomfortable situation for the Royal Family, according to a royal expert.
As a non-working royal, the Duke of Sussex is free to express his opinions on political matters. He has spoken publicly about several political issues since stepping back from royal duties in 2020.
Royal expert Richard Palmer told The i Paper that Harry has already shown he is willing to speak openly.
“Harry has already shown that he is not afraid to speak out on political issues since the family’s police protection was removed in February 2020,” Palmer said.
According to the expert, Harry used a speech in Ukraine in April to urge Donald Trump to support the country and speak more strongly against Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Palmer said such comments would have been difficult for Harry to make when he was a working member of the Royal Family.
The speech reportedly came shortly before King Charles traveled to the United States for a state visit. This increased the possibility that Harry’s comments could create difficulties for the Palace.
“Harry’s return to Britain raises the potential for a heightened level of awkwardness for the Palace,” Palmer said.
A source close to Harry and Meghan Markle reportedly said it was unlikely that Harry would begin publicly criticizing Trump. However, the source added that Harry has the same right as any private citizen to express his views.
