The extended absence of Kate Middleton during her medical recovery has sparked controversy
With Kate Middleton currently recuperating from abdominal surgery, King Charles appears to be exploring alternatives for his prominent royal position.
While Kate briefly returned to social media after a two-month hiatus to share a Mother’s Day message, her photo was subject to scrutiny by international photo agencies over alleged manipulations.
Upon his ascension to the throne, all attention turned to Prince William and Princess Kate to fulfill significant royal duties and represent the reign of the king. However, unexpected crises arose with the monarch's cancer diagnosis and Kate's surgery, leading to an extended recovery period.
Now, Charles is increasingly relying on the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh, esteemed senior members with a strong public reputation.
Prince Edward and his spouse, Sophie, have stepped up to take on additional royal responsibilities, filling the gaps left by the monarch and the Prince and Princess of Wales.
"I believe the King will increasingly depend on Edward and Sophie in the days ahead," remarked royal expert Pauline Maclaran to Express.co.uk.
"This is particularly true for Sophie, who has garnered public favor and contributes to a more feminine image of the monarchy, which risks appearing overly masculine due to future lineage."
She added, "Women have been assuming a more prominent role in recent years, beyond merely supporting their husbands. Sophie is likely to continue this trend, as she has been increasingly visible."
Many have speculated that Sophie will serve as the equivalent of Kate once she becomes Queen Consort. Princess Anne played a significant role in supporting her late mother, Queen Elizabeth, and now supports her brother, King Charles.
