Despite her widespread recognition as Emma Stone, the two-time Oscar winner expressed a desire to be called by her true name, particularly in her latest project, "The Curse," alongside co-star Nathan Fielder.
When asked if she would correct a fan who referred to her as Emma instead of Emily, Stone responded, "That would be so nice. I would like to be Emily."
Stone revealed that she is referred to as Emily by "people that I work with" once she gets to know them. She explained that she initially adopted the stage name "Emma Stone" because her birth name, Emily Stone, was already in use by another actress who was a SAG-AFTRA member before her.
However, Stone confessed that she had a change of heart a few years ago, expressing a desire to reclaim her given name. She shared that Nathan Fielder calls her "Em," which she finds easier.
Interestingly, Stone disclosed that her affinity for the name Emma stemmed from her childhood admiration for Baby Spice, also known as Emma Bunton from the Spice Girls. Reflecting on her childhood, Stone recounted how she requested to be called Emma in second grade, inspired by her favorite Spice Girl.
While her stage name may have been chosen for practical reasons, Stone's personal connection to the name Emma adds an endearing layer to her public persona, bridging her childhood dreams with her successful acting career.
