Prince Harry, accompanied by his wife Meghan Markle, commenced their Nigeria tour with a heartfelt address at Lights Academy school.
Reflecting on the significance of mental health advocacy, the Duke of Sussex shed light on the pervasive stigma surrounding it.
"In many corners of the world, there exists a troubling stigma against mental health," he began. "Too often, it remains shrouded in silence, hidden within the recesses of the mind where it cannot be seen."
"But here's the truth: every individual in this room, regardless of age or background, grapples with mental health."
"Therefore, it is incumbent upon each of us to prioritize self-care, enabling us to extend support to others, and in turn, receive support when needed. It's a symbiotic relationship," Harry asserted.
He urged the audience to validate their emotions, even on the toughest of days.
"Whether it's waking up with a heavy heart, leaving school feeling overwhelmed, or grappling with the loss of a loved one with nowhere to turn, these experiences deserve acknowledgment," Harry emphasized.
"We're here today to affirm that every sentiment, every struggle, merits conversation," he concluded.
The speech follows Prince Harry's recent UK visit, where he expressed disappointment at being unable to meet with King Charles due to scheduling conflicts. Additionally, despite extending invitations, no members of the royal family attended the Invictus Games service at St. Paul's Cathedral.
