Duchess Hosts Uplifting Solo Event with Afghan Women in California
Meghan Markle stepped out for a meaningful solo engagement after Prince Harry’s return from his promotional visit to Vancouver for the 2025 Invictus Games.
On Saturday, the Duchess of Sussex hosted a heartfelt dinner in Venice Beach, California, through The Archewell Foundation, marking the start of the festive season. The event, part of the Southern California Welcome Project, brought together Afghan women supported by Mina’s List, an organisation empowering women in human rights.
The gathering, held at Our Place, a cookware company founded by Shiza Shahid, saw participants gifted new cookware for the holidays while sharing stories of resilience and hope.
Following the event, the Sussexes’ office released official photos and a touching statement:
“In celebration of Thanksgiving, Meghan, The Duchess of Sussex and The Archewell Foundation hosted a heartfelt dinner for the Southern California Welcome Project,” it read.
“This initiative, led by the partner organisation Mina’s List, has spent the past year building community through storytelling and creating a safe space for women who have resettled in the U.S. from Afghanistan.”
Meghan reflected on the evening, highlighting the shared meal and open conversations focused on gratitude and resilience. She expressed her appreciation for the women’s stories and cultural insights, emphasising her excitement for future gatherings that continue to strengthen these bonds.
Concluding her message, Meghan reaffirmed her dedication to “uplifting women and fostering community through shared experiences, reinforcing the importance of unity and support during challenging times.”
