Queen Camilla Misses Event with King Charles Despite Returning to Public Duties
Queen Camilla has resumed her public appearances following a health setback but was forced to cancel yet another engagement shortly after her return.
After being advised by doctors to rest due to a "seasonal chest infection," the Queen made a comeback on Tuesday at the Booker Prize Award ceremony held at Clarence House. The event was highlighted on the royal family's social media, featuring a congratulatory message from Camilla herself: “Many congratulations to Samantha Harvey on winning the Booker Prize Award 2024 with your brilliant novel, Orbital!” signed off with “Camilla R.”
The Palace shared further details, noting, “Earlier today, The Queen welcomed shortlisted authors to Clarence House to congratulate them ahead of the winner being announced this evening.”
However, just hours after this appearance, Buckingham Palace announced that Queen Camilla would not be joining King Charles for a special screening of the new Gladiator film, Ridley Scott’s highly anticipated remake.
This marks the third significant event Camilla has missed due to her health, following her absence from the Festival of Remembrance and the Parade at the Cenotaph.
In a statement, the Palace emphasized that while the Queen is gradually returning to her duties, “small adjustments” will be made to her schedule, including shortened engagements, to “prioritize her continued recovery.”
