Prince Harry’s Invictus Games Promo Sparks Buzz Over His Accent

Duke surprises fans with Americanised speech in playful video ahead of Canadian event.

Prince Harry’s new promotional clip for the upcoming Invictus Games, set to take place in Canada next year, has drawn significant attention—not for its content, but for the Duke’s surprising accent shift.

The video features Harry playfully pretending to get a neck tattoo from U.S. musician Jelly Roll, screaming in mock pain. While the staged tattooing was meant to amuse, fans were more intrigued by his noticeable use of Americanised phrases like "dude" and "a**" instead of the British "mate" and "a**e."

Social media quickly buzzed with comments. “He totally has an American accent now,” one fan remarked, while another noted, “His British accent sounds more diluted to make way for the American accent.”

This isn’t the first time Harry’s speech has caught attention. In a 2022 promotional video for tech start-up BetterUp, fans noticed his accent becoming increasingly Americanised.

Speech and accent expert Emma Serlin, founder of the London Speech Workshop, explained that such changes may be deliberate. “Harry’s speech reflects his effort to seem more ‘of the people’ rather than royal,” Serlin told The Mirror.

As Harry continues to embrace his Californian lifestyle, his evolving accent adds another layer to his public persona ahead of the much-anticipated Invictus Games.
